Coco Gabriel.

Coco Gabriel is an Argentine visual artist based in Barcelona, whose work unfolds within material abstraction and the exploration of language as a boundary. His previous career in the world of fashion shaped in him a particular sensitivity toward form, texture, and presence, elements that permeate his pictorial work.

Although his practice is primarily abstract, it carries a strong symbolic weight. Coco Gabriel does not paint what he sees, nor even what he remembers; he paints what resists language, what remains before being spoken.

In his own words: “My pursuit is for the work to have depth and to leave space for imagination.” His methodology is intuitive and ritualistic. There are no sketches or predefined structures, he works from memory, emotion, and

error, this is how the forms emerge.

His works incorporate sand, earth, dust, and time, generating surfaces that are eroded, dense, subtle, and capable of activating different levels of perception.

His recent exhibitions—Mano a mano (2018), No Rules (2016 and 2019), and Etiqueta Negra (2021), in which the artist challenges the idea that black leads us toward darkness, showing instead how he extracts light and depth from it, are joined by his presentation at Galería Jorge Alcolea, where part of his pictorial work was shown alongside the book of aphorisms and paintings Coco sin permiso (2021).

In March 2022, he participated in the group exhibition ELLOS in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In SOTAVENTO, he pauses his signature colors—black and red—and gently enters a palette of earth tones. In these works, his palette knife leads us through beiges, browns, and muted oranges, interacting subtly with white and opening the path toward a reflective calm.

In May 2023, he presented VENTANAS at the Real Círculo Artístico of Barcelona, inviting us to gaze into a world of serenity and balance. The exhibition explores the connection between our surroundings and our emotional well-being, finding tranquility within our own inner landscapes.

In 2024, he presented Back to Black, where small touches of black reappear in his work, maintaining his signature textured approach.

His recent body of work (2025) centers on Silencios guardados, a series where unspoken words, halted gestures, and forgotten names take form through matter. A territory where form is never described, only revealed.
